The excellent Matjaž Trbovc
The excellent Matjaž Trbovc won the gold this year at Serbia Open Championship in the under 60 category. Slovenia’s hope was extremely confident in each elimination match, which gave him the opportunity to compete for the gold medal and a valuable prize worth 1000 dollars for the second consecutive time. - Serbia Open has become tradition for our representation. It was good last year too, but I am going to remember 2010 by the gold medal I won – said Matjaž Trbovc, member of the Slovenian representation and champion of Serbia Open 2010.
The judoka from the sunny side of the Alps thrilled the audience in Belgrade by his confidence that helped him win the matches up to the finals, and later when he was competing for the gold and effectively beat the Hungarian Erik Hammer.
- I knew I could win Hammer and I was preparing him for ippon throughout the match. I managed to put the idea in practice only in the additional time of the match. I would specially like to thank to the audience, who were encouraging me. I was thrilled by it last year, but even more this year. I hope this gold will be the best introduction to the under 23 European Championship, where I am preparing to win a medal.
There was no rest for Matjaž Trbovc after this triumph. They were practicing twice a day under the supervision of coach Štefan Cuk in the Šumica training camp.
-Everybody knows hoe useful these camps are. That is why we don’t miss any chances. We must be in top form since another big exam is waiting for us – concluded Matjaž Trbovc.
